Support and FAQ
Stuck in a scene or something not working? The answers to the usual questions are below. If yours isn't here, write to info@workaholicdevelopers.com.
Playing
How do I play a scene?
Every scene has five moments. Peek: look at the scene for a few seconds and watch where the seeker's light will go. Paint: colour Dabble's body to match the spot you have in mind. Place: drag Dabble there and squish, stretch or turn it until it melts in. Seek: the seeker walks its route; wherever the light lands on paint that doesn't match, suspicion grows. Result: stay hidden the whole time for one to three stars, or get found and try again.
What are the painting tools?
Three brushes, a bucket to fill, a mix tool that blends two tubes (a quarter, a half or three quarters of each), stamps for stripes, dots, leaves, bricks and tiles, a smudge tool, undo, and the smart dropper: tap anywhere in the scene and it picks the closest colour you can mix from your tubes. Worlds unlock tools one at a time, so the first scenes keep it simple.
How do I squish?
After placing Dabble, drag the handles to squash it flatter or stretch it taller (down to about half, up to one and a half times), and turn it with the rotate handle. A thin shape behind a jar or a flat one on a shelf edge hides far better than the plain drop.
Why did the seeker find me when my colours matched?
Three usual reasons. The scene changed during the seek (a lamp came on, the sun set) and your paint matched the old light. The edge of Dabble's shape stood out against its neighbours, even if the middle matched. Or that world's seeker looks differently: Biscuit sniffs low spots, Glint is drawn to bright paint, Beep is strict exactly on the laser line. The result screen shows where the light caught you.
What do the stars mean?
Getting found gives no stars. Staying hidden gives one, two or three stars depending on how well you blended in. Every scene has been proven solvable for three stars.
Playing together
How do I play with friends on one phone?
Choose Party. Add 2 to 8 players, pick a Dab Squad pal each, and pass the phone around: every hider paints and places in turn behind a pass-the-phone screen, then a human seeker gets three lantern sweeps and taps where they think someone is hiding.
How do online rooms and invite codes work?
Choose Online and create a room: you get a six-letter room code and an invite link like hide.workaholicdevelopers.com/join/ABCDEF. Friends type the code or tap the link, which opens the app or the browser game. Rooms are private only: there is no public matchmaking, so only people with your code can join. Everyone hides in the same scene at the same time, and then every phone replays the seek with all the Dabbles in it. Computer players fill empty seats and take over for anyone who leaves.
Online rooms need an internet connection. Names are random fun names made on your device, and players can only send eight preset emotes: there is no chat.
How do I remove a player, or hide what they painted?
The host can tap a player in the room list and choose Remove; they leave at once and need a new code to come back. Anyone can tap a player and choose Hide this player's paint: their Dabble is shown as a plain drop on your screen only. Both are there so a grown-up can deal with a silly picture in a second.
The invite link doesn't open the game.
On the invite page, tap "Play in your browser" to play straight away, or open the game and type the room code. Rooms end when the game ends, so an old code won't work: ask your friend for a new one.
Progress and settings
Where is my progress saved? Can I move it to another device?
Progress is saved only on your device (or in your browser for the web game). There are no accounts, so it can't be moved or restored. Deleting the app or clearing the site's data removes it.
How do I start over?
Settings → Reset progress clears stars, unlocks, the sticker album, the gallery and your daily streak on this device.
What languages are there?
English, Español, Português (Brasil), Français, Deutsch, हिन्दी and Bahasa Indonesia. Change it in Settings → Language.
Is it really free?
Yes. No ads, no in-app purchases, no coins to buy and no accounts. Every pattern, brush, hat, eye and foot style is earned by playing.
Does it work offline?
Story, Daily Disguise, Party and the Collection all work without internet once the game has loaded. Only online rooms need a connection.
